The funeral for Vern E. Metz, 84, of 334 Avenue F, Hilltop Mobile Homes, Bloomington, who died at 10:50 PM Thursday (April 9, 1998) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, will be at 1 PM Monday at Metzler-Froehlich Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Richard J. Mick officiating. Burial will be in the Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the Memorial home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Cancer Center, Bloomington.

Mr. Metz was born September 8, 1913, at Romeo, Michigan, a son of W. Edward and C. Ella Bollier Metz. He married Wilma Musselman on October 7, 1945, and later married Florence Brown Burris on January 18, 1970, at Bloomington. She survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Peggy (Mark) Roberts of Bettendorf, Iowa; one son, Eugene “Gene” (Pam) Musselman of Vienna, Austria; three stepdaughters, Judith (David) Croke of West Palm Beach, Florida; Anna (Bert) Popejoy, Normal; and Kay (Bill) Polson, Bloomington; one stepson, Thomas (Jackie) Burris, Bloomington; one sister, Verl Thrush of Louisa, Virginia; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; 10 step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Metz was a member of Teamsters Local 26, Bloomington. He moved to Forrest at the age of two and to Bloomington in 1963. He farmed it Forrest and later worked for Rowe Construction Company, in Bloomington, for 23 years, retiring in 1977.
